Brownout of Fire Station #21 will have citywide impact

(Plain Press, November 2008) Ward 13 Councilman Joe Cimperman is concerned that the brownout of City of Cleveland Fire Station 21, located at Carter Road and Scranton Road in the Flats, will severely degrade the fire-fighting capability of the Cleveland Fire Department throughout the City. “The whole Fire Department in Cleveland is based upon a fail-safe system,” said Cimperman.

Lincoln Heights Block Club voices discontent
with Tremont West Development Corporation

(Plain Press, November 2008) Waves of discord and discontent continue to swell within the rank and files of the Lincoln Heights/Scranton-Starkweather Block Club. The Ward 14 community organization has deep concerns that unbalanced representation and lack of fair treatment from the Tremont West Development Corporation are having a negative impact in the needs and growth of their slighted area.

 

Blackie the hippo moves into retirement condo at zoo

(Plain Press, November 2008) Blackie, the venerable Nile Hippopotamus at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, moved into his newly constructed retirement condo during the first week of October. “The peace and quiet will do the old guy some good,” said Zookeeper Eliot Burton at Blackie’s retirement party on August 23, 2008.

 

Friends of Monroe Cemetery take a look back in time

(Plain Press, November 2008) The Friends of Monroe Cemetery hosted "Meet the Neighbors," a walking tour to raise funds and offer a history of some of the cemetery's most interesting and intriguing residents. The tour took place on October 18th at the Monroe Cemetery, located at 3207 Monroe Street, and featured re-enactors portraying some of the prominent figures who helped to settle the Ohio City area and shaped the early history of the City of Cleveland.
