Saturday, November 17, 2007, Fir Street Cemetery, W. 61st & Fir Avenue: Sandra Wood, a Fir Avenue resident, and her granddaughter, Alyssa Perry, joined volunteers of all ages spending a Saturday helping to clean up the graveyard and plant flower bulbs. The Lorain to Fir Block Club organized the cemetery cleanup and flower planting.

Thursday, November 1, 2007, City Council Chambers, Cleveland City Hall, E. 6th and Lakeside: Ward 14 Councilman Joe Santiago gives a speech to Cleveland City Council responding to a recall petition demanding his removal. In his speech Santiago said he would not resign. Following Santiago’s speech, Cleveland City Council, in accordance with the City Charter, acknowledged that the recall petition had been certified by the Council Clerk to have the required number of valid signatures and formally passed a resolution ordering a recall election to be held on December 18, 2007.

Thursday, November 1, 2007, Roberto Clemente Park, Seymour Avenue (west of Fulton): Moses Cintron (no relation to former Councilman Nelson Cintron) shows some of the vandalism in the park across from his home. Moses Cintron, who is a supporter of recall of Ward 14 Councilman Joe Santiago, says he called Ward 14 Councilman Joe Santiago asking him to check on the vandalism. “He never did,” said Moses Cintron.

The St. Colman Day celebration at the parish honored the Sisters of St. Joseph (CSJ) and their religious order for their commitment to the people of St. Colman Parish and neighborhood since 1886.

Thursday, November 1, 2007, Erin Avenue (just west of Fulton): Marcelino DeJesus and Gary DeJesus of Erin Avenue point out how high the standing water is at the base of their drive. They say they have been trying to get drainage problems on their street in Ward 14 solved since 1969. Marcelino and Gary DeJesus support the recall, but would like to see someone other than Cintron and Santiago run for city council after the recall. They say other problems on the street such as vacant houses and the lack of a curb cut for the handicapped remain unaddressed.
