Clark-Metro resident warns of mail scams
(Plain Press, July 2008) Clark Metro neighborhood resident Margarita Rivera would like warn Clevelanders about two mail scams originating from the Netherlands.
She says, one of the scams from CPS Payments Department announces that you are the recipient of a winning claim number. It asks that you send a $10 claim fee to receive your full payment of $20,000. It then provides a self-addressed envelope with a Netherlands address.
The second scam from Active Capital Group Client Services Department asks for an administrative fee of $14.87 to process a cash claim benefit with a potential value of $50 million. The scam also used a Netherlands address.
Rivera said she called the Better Business Bureau and learned that such scams often involve asking for additional money and the issuing of fake checks that result in additional problems for those taken in by the scams. She says the Better Business Bureau urged her to report the scam to Phone Busters at 1-888-495-9501. Rivera also urged residents to report the scam to the Better Business Bureau (BBB) at 241-7678. Residents can also visit the BBB online at www.bbb.org to check reports on businesses.
