Fight outside El Tropical results in stabbing victim

(Plain Press, December 2009) At about 1:20 a.m. on Saturday November 7th an argument and a fight outside of El Tropical Night Club at Storer Avenue and W. 44th Street resulted in a 24 year old man being stabbed. The victim was taken to Metro Health Medical Center by ambulance and treated for severe lacerations and released.

Witnesses reported to police that the suspect and the victim were arguing in Spanish, and got into a fight in the street outside Club El Tropical. The suspect then pulled out a knife, stabbed the victim several times, jumped into a newer burgundy 4-door auto and drove away.

A witness described the suspect as a taller, light-skinned Hispanic male with braids in his hair. The police report raises the possibility the suspect may go by the name of “Omar.” Police were unable to locate the suspect.

El Tropical Night Club remains open despite an October 20th ruling by the Ohio Court of Appeals denying El Tropical’s application to renew its liquor license. The City of Cleveland objected to El Tropical’s application to renew its license “claiming the bar was responsible for fights, gunshots, violence, noise, drug usage, thefts, and other disturbances on the premises and in the area.” The club was given 45 days to appeal the decision to the Ohio Supreme Court or face closure.
