Our Lady of Mt. Carmel 8th grade students learn to manage money
(Plain Press, March 2010) Early this year the 8th Grade students at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish School learned how to manage money, create budgets and do financial planning through a course called Real Money, Real World. The course was conducted by Ohio State University under the direction of Vanessa Lange and by Our Lady of Mount Carmel Algebra Teacher Sister Jeanette Estrada.
The students were each assigned a random career, simulated bank and checking accounts and are responsible for managing these fund plus household expenses for three weeks. At the last class on February 5th students culminated their experience and were able to purchase things if they had funds available in their portfolios.
