Update on area Catholic Church closings

(Plain Press, July 2010) The Cleveland Catholic Diocese has closed a number of churches in the Plain Press service area over the past year – some have just recently closed and two are in the process of appealing their closure to the Vatican.

Three of those churches and buildings on their grounds are now being offered for sale: St. Rose at 11401 Detroit Avenue and three buildings on its property are being offered for sale at a price of $1.32 million; St. Procop, 3181 W. 41st, with four buildings on its property for sale at $750,000: and Blessed Sacrament at 3381 Fulton with 5 buildings on its property is offered for sale at $350,000

In addition to the three churches offered for sale, the Cleveland Catholic Diocese has closed Saints Philip and James at 3727 Bosworth Road: St. Wendelin Church at 2281 Columbus Road; Our Lady of Mercy Church at 2425 W. 11th; St. Barbara’s at 1515 Denison Avenue; and St. Emeric at 1860 W. 22.

St. Emeric and St. Barbara’s parishes are appealing Bishop Richard Lennon’s order to close the churches.
