Update – El Tropical

(Plain Press, July 2010) Residents in the neighborhood around El Tropical Night Club at W. 44th and Storer Avenue were elated in December of 2009 when the troublesome night club officially had its liquor permit terminated by the Ohio Department of Liquor Control and lost its authority to operate.

However, in March of this year residents reported a party inside the facility with alcohol being served. Police were called.

Again on May 23, 2010 residents reported a fight in the parking lot of El Tropical with about 100 people involved. They reported BBQ being sold from the parking lot, rats, garbage and drive by drug sales. Eleven police cars showed up at the fight with about 20 officers.

Ward 14 Councilman Brian Cummins promised residents he would follow up with the owner, police and the Health Department “to go over their food permits and likely lack of permitted use or not complying with what they would need to for grilling/cooking outside.”

Residents said the location has been quiet since the night police responded to the fight.
